JAKARTA - The Ministry of Agriculture guarantees the supply of national food availability for 12 basic commodities is safe during PPKM level 4. All of these foodstuffs are still in surplus until September 2021.
"Our rice is safe until September, with a surplus of 11 million tons," said Head of the Center for Food Availability and Insecurity of the Ministry of Agriculture Andriko Noto, quoted from Antara, Thursday, August 19.
Based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Andriko said, the number of rice stocks in September had exceeded the estimated demand or a surplus of 11 million tons, corn a surplus of 2.3 million tons, soybeans a surplus of 342 thousand tons, red onions a surplus of 106 thousand tons, garlic a surplus of 56 thousand tons, large chilies have a surplus of 167 thousand tons, and cayenne peppers have a surplus of 241 thousand tons.
Furthermore, beef or buffalo has a surplus of 124 thousand tons, chicken meat has a surplus of 319 thousand tons, chicken eggs has a surplus of 82 thousand tons, sugar has a surplus of 1.3 million tons, and cooking oil has a surplus of 591 thousand tons.
Andriko said the stock of food availability is not only safe nationally, but also most of the stock is safe for each province. Even if there are several regions experiencing a deficit in a staple food commodity, the Food Security Agency (BKP) of the Ministry of Agriculture distributes it from surplus areas to deficit areas.
According to Andriko, the important thing to do during the PPKM period is to ensure that there are no food distribution problems. In addition, Andriko said the Ministry of Agriculture also encourages local governments, both provincial and district, to make their own food reserves owned by the regions to ensure food security is maintained.
The stock of rice until the second week of August 2021 is 8.3 million tons.
