JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that imports of pharmaceutical commodities have increased during the July 2021 period. The biggest increase mainly occurred in vaccine imports of USD 150 million or equivalent to IDR 2.15 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of IDR 14,380 per US dollar).
Head of BPS Margo Yuwono said the additional import of the vaccine was included in the category of imported pharmaceutical products with HS code 30.
"For non-oil and gas imports, the increase was in HS 30, namely pharmaceutical products, which increased by 185.5 million US dollars. When viewed in more detail, the largest increase was due to an increase in vaccine imports of 150 million US dollars," he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday. , August 18th.
If you look at the country of origin, Margo explained that China, Japan and Spain are the main suppliers. China is the biggest contributor, but it has not been specified how much it is worth.
In addition, BPS revealed that imports of pharmaceutical products recorded the highest increase during July 2021 when viewed by category of goods or HS. This was followed by additional imports of slag and metal ash worth 80.7 million US dollars.
Then, the dregs/leftovers of the food industry are 79.8 million US dollars, motor vehicles or their components in a state of disassembly 12.9 million US dollars, as well as rock sulfur salt and cement 10.8 million US dollars.
For imports, Margo said the value fell 12.22 percent on a monthly basis from 17.22 billion US dollars in June to 15.11 billion US dollars in July. On an annual basis, the figure is still an increase of 44.44 percent compared to 10.46 billion US dollars in July 2020.
Margo explained that although it fell on a monthly basis, the annual trend of imports was still higher than in 2020. Except, imports in January 2021 which were recorded lower at 13.33 billion US dollars compared to January 2020 of 14.27 billion US dollars.
"Our import trend during 2021 has increased compared to 2020, except in January where imports were smaller than 2020," he said.
Margo said that in total, imports for the period January to July 2021 reached 106.15 billion dollars, an increase of 30.46 percent compared to 81.37 billion US dollars in the same period January-July 2020.
