COVID-19 Update As Of June 23: Cases Are Still High Due To Contact Tracing And Massive Tests

JAKARTA - Government spokesman for the handling of COVID-19, Achmad Yurianto, explained the progress of the case as of Tuesday, June 23 at 12.00 WIB. There were an additional 1,051 confirmed positive cases today. The total number of positive cases became 47,896 people.

Yuri admitted that the trend of COVID-19 cases had not shown a decline. This, he said, was caused by a more massive examination effort accompanied by a more aggressive contact tracing.

"The results of our contact tracing were more aggressive, followed by a more massive examination," said Yuri at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, Tuesday, June 23.

Examinations are still being carried out for areas with high positive cases. "Or the average number of cases per 100,000 population is still quite high," he said.

Then, the number of patients who died today increased by 35 people, to become 2,535 patients. There were an additional 506 patients recovered, bringing the total to 18,241 patients.

Today, the highest number of new cases is back in East Java Province with 258 cases, bringing the total to 10,115 people. Then, the second largest province is in DKI Jakarta with an increase of 160 cases and a total of 10,250 cases. Even so, the accumulated number of COVID-19 cases in DKI is still the highest.

Then, South Sulawesi with an increase of 154 cases and a total of 4,062 cases, North Sumatra with an increase of 117 cases and a total of 1,232, and Papua with an increase of 55 cases and a total of 1,495 cases.

Of the 34 provinces that reported, 18 provinces reported new cases under 10. Of these provinces, 8 of them reported that today there were no additional new cases.

"In fact, several provinces reported more recovered cases than confirmed positive cases," said Yuri.

Furthermore, the total number of specimens that had been examined was accumulatively as many as 666,219. In detail, 652,885 specimens were examined using RT-PCR and 15,334 specimens were examined using a molecular rapid test (TCM).

This examination was carried out in 121 active real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratories, 99 TCM laboratories, and 249 network laboratories.

Then, the patient data under surveillance (PDP) which is currently still being monitored reached 13,384 people. Meanwhile, people under monitoring (ODP) who are currently still being monitored reach 47,896.
