Task Force: Freedom Is Not Completely Free From COVID-19, But Achieving A New Normal Life

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that Indonesia was still in the war against the COVID-19 pandemic, which had not yet ended.

Because, currently the development of positive cases of COVID-19 is still fluctuating. Plus, there are new variants of the virus, three of which have been found in Indonesia.

Unfortunately, Wiku views the war against the pandemic so far as making people forget that the real enemy is the virus, not the other party.

"This war that has been going on for a year and a half sometimes makes us forget who our real enemy is, and blame each other. We only have one enemy, we have to defeat first, namely the COVID-19 virus," Wiku said in a virtual press conference. , Tuesday, August 17th.

Therefore, to coincide with the commemoration of Independence Day on August 17 at this time, Wiku said that the goal of the fight against COVID-19 is independence.

"Of course, independence is not defined as being completely free from COVID-19, but achieving a new normal life in order to lead a productive society that is safe from COVID-19," he said.

In achieving this goal of independence, Wiku revealed that there are three main assets that need continuous strengthening. The first capital is compliance with Health protocols.

The second capital is policy strengthening and coordination. Entering 2021, policies for handling COVID-19 will focus on the characteristics of the conditions and readiness of each region.

The third capital is the readiness of health facilities. Currently, the capacity of health facilities in Indonesia has increased and is much better than at the beginning of the pandemic.

"With these three capitals, if all levels of society and the government in a disciplined and consistent manner continue to strengthen and improve it, then it is not impossible that we will reach the point where we are free from COVID-19," he concluded.
