Police Arrest 5 Headless Dead Elephant Killers In East Aceh
BANDA ACEH - The East Aceh Resort Police (Polres) arrested five suspected perpetrators of killing an elephant found without a head in an oil palm plantation area, in Jambo Reuhat Village, Banda Alam District, East Aceh Regency.
The Head of Public Relations of the Aceh Police, Kombes Winardy, said that the five perpetrators who were arrested had their respective roles.
"The five perpetrators who were arrested are JN alias DG (35), EM (41), SN (33), JZ (50), and RA (46). The perpetrator JN alias DG is suspected of poisoning and cutting the elephant's neck, "said Kombes Winardy was quoted by Antara, Tuesday, August 17.
Meanwhile, the other four suspected perpetrators, said Kombes Winardy, acted as sellers or those who traded body parts of these protected animals.
Kombes Winardy stated, previously a male elephant aged 12 to 15 years was found dead without a head in an oil palm plantation area, in Jambo Reuhat Village, Banda Alam District, East Aceh Regency on July 11, 2021.
The results of the forensic laboratory examination, the cause of the elephant's death was poisoned. The perpetrator allegedly took the ivory to be traded, said Kombes Winardy.
"In addition to the five perpetrators who have been arrested, another person is designated as a DPO. The suspected perpetrator who entered the DPO is still being pursued," said Winardy.
The perpetrators along with evidence in the form of the proceeds of crime and the tools used were secured at the East Aceh Police for further development.
"The perpetrators were charged with Article 21 paragraph (2) letter a and Article 40 paragraph (2) of Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Natural Resources Conservation in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code," said Kombes Winardy.
