The film Tjoet Nja' Dhien was directed by Eros Djarot in 1988, and starred Christine Hakim and Slamet Rahardjo Djarot. This film became the best film at the 1988 Indonesian Film Festival and won eight Citra trophies.

Not only successful as one of the best Indonesian films of all time, Tjoet Nja' Dhien also became the first Indonesian film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989.
