Princess Diana And Prince Charles Wedding Cake Auctions Fantastically Appreciated
JAKARTA - An auction house in England, Dominic Winter Auctioneers, is auctioning a piece of wedding cake. Not just any wedding cake, the cake is a wedding cake from Prince Charles and Princess Diana. A piece of cake was valued at 1,850 pounds, or about Rp36,859,791.
Citing The Vintage News, the pieces of the royal cake are still there after many years of marriage between Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The cake has a delicious topping, is made of icing and placed on marzipan, and is over four decades old.
When auctioned, the price of the cake opened at 300 pounds. Sales figures are expected to be up to £500. But surprisingly, the price of the cake penetrated up to 1,850 pounds. The lucky auction winner was Gerry Layton from Leeds, Yorkshire. He is referred to as a "zealous royal fan."
"I thought I wanted to add this to my estate, which will be used for charity after I die," he said. "I also thought that I could give it away as a raffle prize with some of the money going to Centrepoint, which is Princess Diana's backer."
Chris Albury, royal memorabilia specialist at Dominic Winter Auctioneers said he was amazed by the number of bidders who were attracted to the cake. Most of the offers came from the UK, US and the Middle East, he said.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana had a total of 23 cakes made for the happy occasion. The cake at auction features a detailed and sweet royal coat of arms design in gold, red, blue and silver. Until 2008, the slice of cake was kept by Moyra Smith, who served the mother of Queen Elizabeth II. He put the cake in the tin.
The auction is part of the Ceremonial and Order of Service program for the wedding, which is estimated to have a worldwide television audience of more than 700 million people. The list of items up for auction includes a royal wedding breakfast menu as well as wedding seating and tables.
The auction comes just months after Princess Diana's daughter agreed to lend her wedding dress for public display at Kensington Palace. A car that Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana as an engagement gift was also recently auctioned, selling for more than £52,000.
