Twitter Again Freezes Blue Tick Account Verification Service

JAKARTA - Just launched three months ago, now the submission or verification of the blue tick of a Twitter account has been frozen again. However, the company did not reveal the reason behind this termination of its service.

"We're temporarily suspending access to account verification requests so we can make improvements to the application and review process," Twitter said on its official account, quoted by VOI from The Verge, Monday 16, August.

Even so, Twitter said it would continue the process of submitting verification of accounts that have been included in the list. Unfortunately, for users who want to apply for the verification process now, they will have to wait until a time that has not been determined by Twitter.

Meanwhile, the company has also not indicated whether it will make changes to the criteria it uses to consider accounts verifiable.

Previously in May 2021, Twitter did re-open submissions for blue ticks, after having stopped since 2017. Twitter admitted they had wrongly put blue ticks on fake accounts claiming to be novelist Cormac McCarthy. Some bot accounts have also been known to get the badge.

Meanwhile, in 2017, Twitter postponed the public process as well because it gave a blue tick to Jason Kessler's account which caused various protests. Kessler is known as a white supremacist who organized a racially charged protest in Charlotterville, Virginia. Some people say Kessler accounts don't deserve the blue tick badge.
