Jokowi: Crisis, Recession, And The COVID-19 Pandemic Are Like Fire, Burning And Illuminating
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) likens the current COVID-19 pandemic, crisis and recession to fire. There are many things that can be learned but cannot be avoided.
This was conveyed in a State Speech at the Annual Session of the MPR RI, the Joint Session of the DPR RI to welcome the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.
"Fire does burn but at the same time illuminates. When controlled, it inspires and motivates. It hurts but also strengthens," said Jokowi in his speech that was broadcast online, Monday, August 16.
He wants the COVID-19 pandemic to be able to make all parties introspective, improve themselves, and strengthen themselves in an effort to face challenges in the future.
In addition, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta also said that the COVID-19 pandemic had indeed placed a heavy burden on all parties in the country. But, like the crater of candradimuka, all of these things actually become a test that provides a lot of teaching as well as sharpening all lines.
"The pandemic is like a candradimuka crater that tests, teaches, and sharpens at the same time. The pandemic places a heavy burden on us, a burden full of risks, and forces us to face and manage it," said Jokowi.
He said that currently all the pillars of life and strength are currently being tested and honed.
Tests and sharpening, said Jokowi, became two sides of an inseparable coin. Even so, he asked that the COVID-19 pandemic should not only be a burden but an opportunity to improve himself.
"When the test feels more and more difficult, the sharpening is also increasing. That is the process of becoming a nation that is resilient, strong, and capable of winning the competition arena," he concluded.
