See STIB, School Of Professional Coconut Picker Ape Creators In Pariaman
JAKARTA - If one of the requirements for good education is education that is oriented to biological wealth for a country, then the Beruk College of Sciences (STIB) in Pariaman, West Sumatra can be a concrete example. In that school, monkeys are trained to be professional workers.
From the name alone it is clear that the school is devoted to beruk. But don't imagine if this school is a room filled with chairs and tables filled with monkeys.
A brief explanation regarding beruk. Beruk is a strong primate whose arms and legs are almost the same length. Their fur is generally brown or black. The sizes differ between sexes and between species.
Launching from various sources compiled by VOI, Monday, June 22, STIB aims to make wild monkeys trained. Later the beruk will be trained to be able to help coconut farmers in the plantations.
It should be noted that the Pariaman area itself is a coastal area and a large coconut producer in West Sumatra. It's not an easy matter to train beruk to do something "professional".
Maybe, some time ago we remembered that there were monkeys or other animals trained by their owners with physical violence which often makes the animal injured and even traumatized. This is where the STIB's role, namely to train wild monkeys, which are often considered pests, become trained monkeys in a humane way.
Stand upReporting from Kompas, this STIB was built by the Village Owned Enterprise (Bumdes) Apar Mandiri Pariaman. Like schools for humans, STIB has a curriculum that was created as a guideline for training beruk.
Teaching done to beruk has a process. It took almost a year for the monkey to become trained in coconut picking.
During the first three months, the beruk will be introduced to their special foods, such as palm sugar, milk, rice, and vegetables. Then, in the following three months, the new beruk will be introduced to how to pick coconuts, which must also be introduced gradually.
The stages are the introduction of the coconuts embedded in the wood so that the beruk can learn to spin the coconut. Then the monkey will also be taught how to drop a coconut and differentiate between old coconut and young coconut.
The exact location of STIB is in Apar Village which has now been revitalized. This is because now STIB is not only a place for learning, but also a place for tourism.
Therefore, STIB has a tour guide in the area to explain about the school to tourists. Later, tourists can see how each other learn and can interact directly. This unique school is not only the first monochromatic school in Indonesia, but the first in the world.
