Tompi Reviewing The Phenomenon Of Actors In The Finished Movie
JAKARTA - The film Finished marks the second collaboration between Tompi and Imam Darto after the film Pretty Boys (2019). Darto admits that the biggest challenge in this film project lies in the character development process, which must be linear with the limited shooting locations during the pandemic.
"Because we are not allowed to shoot too much outside the house, the biggest challenge is how to create layers of layers of conflict between the characters in the story to keep it interesting even though the movement is only inside the house," explained Darto.
In a certain portion, the film "Done" is able to show the complex side of the affair. In addition to the cinematographic character, the character development of the actors is well done, especially if we listen to the movement of Ayu's character (Broto's wife, played by Ariel Tatum) from the beginning to the end of the story. Ayu's character is presented in a complex manner so that the audience will be surprised to find a plot twist that was not expected before.
However, when it comes to the core conflict of infidelity, the film Finishes doesn't seem far away from the narrative of a hurt ideal wife, a male usurper (the actor) who doesn't show any guilt (Anya, played by Anya Geraldine), and a husband who doesn't give up on having an affair (Anya, played by Anya Geraldine). Broto, played by Gading Marten).
Unfortunately, the film "Selesai" is not as "extreme" as imagined if you want to step into the idea of breaking taboos and stigma in social life. Anya's portion as an actor has not been explored more sharply from various perspectives and only appears in certain scenes.
Quoted from ANTARA, conflict resolution also seems rushed. Although it should be acknowledged, Ayu's plot twist made the audience re-question their alignment with the three characters.
Apart from that, the dialogue between characters when dealing with conflicts is so honest, straightforward, and straightforward is something that should be appreciated. Tompi does not hesitate to insert vulgar words that are considered taboo in conservative culture in his film dialogues. Exploration of dialogue in essence also portrays the reality of the spectrum of emotions, both anger and pent-up sadness due to infidelity, which is supernaturally happening to today's young couples.
Film Finish is a reflection of Tompi's passion towards maturity in cinema. The arrangement of images in the second film is very "typical" Tompi. Although, of course, the level of maturity needs to be tested after the director has produced several works and criticisms from critics and film lovers.
