PKB Alludes To The Potential For A 3rd Term President If The Pandemic Lasts Until 2024, The Reason Is That Polling Stations Can Be Closed

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Jazilul Fawaid, said that there is a potential for a 3 term presidential office if the COVID-19 pandemic conditions in 2024 cannot be controlled.

Because according to Jazilul, currently places of worship, shopping centers, or other places that can cause crowds are prohibited from opening. So, it is possible that the polling stations (TPS) may not be held in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

"So if the conditions are like this, it's certainly unpredictable (unexpected, ed) until today," said Jazilul in a virtual discussion entitled 'Pandemic and Political Constellation 2024', Saturday, August 14.

According to him, there will be constitutional problems if it turns out that the schedule determined by the KPU in February 2024, there are still dangerous variants of the COVID-19 virus.

"Well, it turns out that the Delta variant is playing again, automatically everything is closed, including the TPS," he said.

Jazilul also reminded that last June, Indonesia's COVID-19 cases had slid, but the situation was critical again when the virus from India spread rapidly.

Therefore, the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR considers that there needs to be serious talks between politicians to find a way out regarding the 2024 presidential election during the pandemic.

"If such an incident occurs, the politicians must gather to find a way. From now on, think about it, the name is to make a direction forward," he said.

But Jazilul does not expect the pandemic to drag on even until 2024. He said, currently the government and all elements are fighting for this pandemic to end soon.

"But we hope as hard as we can, hopefully, everything will be finished in 2021," said Jazilul.
