So Defender Who Scored 68 Goals In La Liga, Ramos Passed Koeman's Record
JAKARTA - Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is the defender who has scored the most goals in La Liga history. This record was created during the Los Blancos match against Real Sociedad at Anoeta on Sunday, June 21 evening local time.
Ramos made his career in the Spanish premier league to 68 goals after converting a penalty against La Real in a 2-1 match for Zinedine Zidane's men. This result also flew Madrid to the top of the La Liga standings to shift main rivals Baacelona.
Madrid broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half through Ramos. This goal was preceded by Vinicius Junior's agile movement into the home team's defense which was then stopped in the wrong way by Alex Remiro.
With seven goals scored this season, Ramos' tally has surpassed former Barcelona defender Ronald Koeman in the defender's all-time leading scorer list.
Unfortunately, moments after setting the record, the 34-year-old captain was hobbling his way after injuring his knee. He clashed with Alexander Isak and had to be replaced by Eder Militao.
In this match, Karim Benzema doubled Madrid's lead in the 70th minute. Meanwhile the home side had a chance to stun Los Blancos when a brilliant goal from Mikel Merino gave Sociedad hope with seven minutes remaining.
But Madrid was able to survive to shift Barca at the top of the standings after going through 30 matches. Los Galacticos and Los Balugarana both have 65 points, but Ramos et al are ahead in head to head.
