With The Addition Of Alor And Batu Putih Regencies, BMKG Recorded Areas Without Extreme Rain In NTT To 13

KUPANG - Kupang Climatology Station, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) noted that the area in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province that experienced Rainless Days (HTH) with the extreme long category increased from 11 to 13 regions.

"Regions with extreme length categories have HTH conditions of more than 60 days," said BMKG Kupang Class II Climatology Station Head Rahmatulloh Adji in Kupang, Friday.

His side noted previously that the long extreme HTH category hit 11 regions in Kupang City and 10 districts. Namely, the districts of Kupang, Belu, Rote Ndao, Sabu Raijua, Lembata, East Flores, Sikka, Ngada, East Manggarai and East Sumba.

But at this time, he said, the condition of HTH with the extreme long category also hit parts of Alor Regency and the Batu Putih area in South Central Timor Regency. This brings the total to 13 regions.

Rahmatulloh explained the condition of the threat of meteorological drought based on HTH data as of August 10, 2021, which showed several areas in NTT were experiencing HTH in the long (20-30 days) and extreme long (more than 60 days) categories.

Forecasts of rainfall opportunities show that in general the NTT region is expected to experience very low rainfall (less than 20 millimeters/basis) with a 71-100 percent chance.

The current season zone in NTT, he said, is in the dry season period, so vigilance is needed regarding the threat of drought.

Rahmatulloh suggested that areas with meteorological drought early warning status take anticipatory steps such as being aware of forest and land fires.

In addition, it saves the use of clean water and performs agricultural cultivation activities that do not require a lot of water.
