Juliari Batubara's Former Subordinates Sued For 8 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The former official who made the commitment (PPK) for the provision of COVID-19 basic food assistance at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Matheus Joko Santoso, was sentenced to 8 years in prison. Matheus was also charged with a fine of Rp. 400 million, subsidiary of 6 months in prison.

"Demanding that the defendant Matheus Joko Santoso be sentenced to 8 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 400 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison," said the prosecutor at the Corruption Court, Jakarta, Friday, August 13

Matheus Joko Santoso was declared to have been legally and convincingly proven to have violated Article 12 letter b or Article 11 in conjunction with Article 18 and Article 12 letter i of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Corruption as amended by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

The prosecutor's claim is based on several considerations. For incriminating considerations, the defendant is considered not to support the government's program to create a government that is free from collusion, corruption and nepotism.

Moreover, Matheus Joko Santoso's corruption crime was carried out in an emergency condition of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While considering mitigating, Matheus Joko Santoso has given true information and regrets his actions. In fact, Matheus' application as a justice collaborator was approved by the prosecutor.

"The defendant has never been convicted, the defendant admits frankly his actions, the defendant regrets his actions, the defendant gets the status of a witness to the perpetrator who cooperates as a justice collaborator," said the prosecutor.

Then, in his lawsuit, the prosecutor asked Matheus Joko Santoso to pay a replacement money of Rp. 1.56 billion. Otherwise, he will sell all of his assets to pay for the replacement money.

"If the defendant does not pay the replacement money within 1 month after the decision is made, the defendant's property can be confiscated by the prosecutor to be auctioned off, if it is not sufficient, he will be sentenced to 1 year in prison," said the prosecutor.
