6 Teachings That Parents Must Instill In Boys
JAKARTA - Boys are always considered to be strong, tough, and brave. Actually, that's not the only character that parents need to cultivate in their son. There are many other characters that need to be instilled in children so that they will become quality adult men, for example the values of compassion.
Rick Johnson, parenting practitioner and author of Better Dads, Stronger Sons, mentions some values that need to be instilled in boys from an early age, namely;
Perseverance
Success is born of perseverance in the face of adversity. Rick says that boys must learn to endure adversity now if they are to succeed later. To instill these values, parents must also be consistent not to be too light-handed in helping their children when they face difficulties. Give them a chance to work things out on their own and guide them when they ask for help.
Can be trusted
A man must be trusted. Teach him to always keep his promises, be committed in every task given to him, and be responsible if there are mistakes. Talk to him about how important other people's trust is and that trust can be broken if it's broken.
Bravery
Teach boys to have the courage to speak their minds, to stand up for their beliefs, to stand up for what is right even when it might bring pain, sadness, or negative consequences.
Affection
Every man should be able to manage affection such as being gentle and empathetic to anyone. They must be able to see and understand other people's problems from their own perspective.
Discipline
Discipline will make a boy successful. Children who are accustomed to discipline will be able to regulate themselves and tend to be solutions.
Honesty
Let your boy know that you expect honesty from him at all times, even when he has made bad choices. Teach them to be honest with themselves first. People who are honest with themselves will be able to be honest with others.
