Governor Syamsuar Orders To Accelerate Vaccination For Health Workers In Riau Regency/City

RIAU - Riau Governor Syamsuar asked all regencies and cities to immediately speed up moderna vaccination for health workers (nakes) considering that the vaccine has been distributed to regions.

"The acceleration of the injection of this vaccination to health workers can be completed immediately according to the direction of the Indonesian Minister of Health and this modern vaccine is indeed intended for medical personnel as an effort to reduce the exposure of COVID-19 to health workers in Riau," said Syamsuar in Pekanbaru, Antara, Thursday, August 12.

Moderna vaccine is a vaccine to prevent infection with the SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 virus. The moderna vaccine was developed in January 2020 by the Moderna and Vaccine Research Center at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) in America.

This moderna vaccine has also received an emergency use permit to prevent COVID-19 infection in adults over the age of 18. From clinical trials that have been carried out, this vaccine shows an efficacy value, namely the protective effect against COVID-19 of 94.1 percent.

Meanwhile, according to the Head of Riau Province Health Office, Mimi Yuliani Nazir, the achievement of vaccination for health workers has exceeded the target.

Even now, the health workers who are at the forefront of treating COVID-19 patients are starting to inject vaccines for the third dose or booster vaccines.

"Until now, the achievement of injecting the third dose of vaccine or booster vaccine for health workers in Riau Province has reached 3.4 percent of the total vaccine target or around 1,112 people and this is still ongoing," said Mimi.

The number of target health workers in Riau who will be given booster vaccines is 32,923 people. They are health workers who work in a number of hospitals in Riau Province. So far, the central government has sent 1,500 doses of moderna vaccine to Riau. This moderna vaccine is specifically intended for health workers in Riau.

The modern booster vaccine for health workers is carried out to provide protection to health workers because they are on the front lines and directly in contact with COVID-19 patients so that the risk of exposure to the corona virus is greater when compared to other priority groups.

"We hope that the provision of this third vaccine can increase the body's immunity for health workers so that they can be safer while on duty and avoid transmission of the COVID-19 virus," said Mimi.
