ASI Survey: 75.6% of Communities Agree for Jokowi to Reshuffle

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Survey Flow Institute (ASI) released the results of a national survey entitled Public Evaluation Ahead of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin Administration. As a result, 75.6% of survey respondents agreed to reshuffle the Indonesian Cabinet.

This survey was carried out on 9-12 June in 34 provinces. The respondents were interviewed with a questionnaire via telephone, using a multistage random sampling method.

1,000 respondents took part in this survey with a margin of error of 3.1% and a confidence level of 95%.

"Regarding the cabinet reshuffle discourse, 75.6% of the public said they agreed, while 16.9% others didn't," Director of the Indonesian Survey Flow, Ali Ri'fan, said in a written statement, Friday, June 19th.

From 75.6%, 20.5% of respondents strongly agreed and 55.1% of respondents agreed with the recent Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin cabinet reshuffle.

As for the performance of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet Minister, 32.2% of respondents said they were satisfied with the performance of the Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziah. Then in the second place, 32%claimed to be satisfied with the performance of the Minister of National Development Planning and Head of Bappenas, Suharso Manoarfa.

"According to public perceptions, the level of public satisfaction with the performance of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin cabinet ministers is less encouraging because the figures are below 50% on average. The findings of this survey could serve as an evaluation record for President Jokowi to review his aides," he said.

Furthermore, the public claimed not to be satisfied with the performance of several ministers. In the survey, 58% of respondents said they were not satisfied with the performance of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo. Then, as many as 57% of respondents said they were not satisfied with the performance of the Minister of Health (Menkes), Terawan Agus Putranto.

In the third position, as many as 57% of respondents said they were not satisfied with the performance of the Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani. Dissatisfaction was also directed at Minister of Religion, Fachrul Razi, and Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari Coal, with a percentage of 54%.

Followed by 53% of respondents said they were not satisfied with the performance of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.

Let's reflect on the dissatisfaction and the high number of public who agreed on the cabinet reshuffle. It means, the public wants the performance of ministers in the cabinet to be even better in the future.

Earlier, a political observer at Paramadina University, Hendri Satrio, agreed with Mardani. He said that President Jokowi needs to replace his aides in the cabinet. According to him, the Onward Indonesia Cabinet needs an adjustment in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak.

"There is a pandemic. It must be filled with people who are right with the current situation," Hendri said when contacted by VOI.

According to him, Jokowi can imitate Winston Churchill, the former Prime Minister of England. Hendri said, while serving and facing war, Winston formed a war cabinet.

In the cabinet, Winston chose a minister who understood the war situation. Once the war was over, his cabinet then changed under the circumstances at that time. "Well, Mr. Jokowi should be like that," he said.

"The cabinet was built and formed in a normal condition. Now in the new normal condition, there must be a refreshment. An evaluation must be done," explained Hendri.

This refreshment and evaluation are considered very important. In addition to solving problems during the pandemic, this refreshment could help Jokowi to carry out his campaign promises.

Indonesian Political Review Executive Director, Ujang Komarudin, believes that Jokowi needs to replace or reshuffle several ministers. According to him, several names deserve to be changed. Including Minister of Health, Terawan Agus Putranto; Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi; Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari Batubara; Minister of Labor, Ida Fauziyah; and several ministers in the economic field. The minister he mentioned was not responsive in dealing with this non-natural disaster.

"The COVID-19 handlers are indeed chaotic. Many rules collide because the ministers make strange and conflicting rules," explained Ujang.

According to Ujang, Jokowi doesn't need to wait for this outbreak to end if he wanted to evaluate or replace his aides. "No need to wait for COVID to end. The President can replace his ministers who are not working well," he said.

"When there are many ministers who cannot work, reshuffle becomes a necessity. If there are ministers whose performance is bad in handling corona, yes, just change them," he concluded.
