From Trisakti To The 1999 Murder Of The Shaman, Komnas HAM Asks The Attorney General's Office To Follow Up On 12 Serious Human Rights Cases
JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) continues to encourage and coordinate with the Indonesian Attorney General's Office (AGO) to follow up investigations into 12 cases of alleged past gross human rights violations.
"Encourage the Attorney General to follow up on 12 incidents that have been investigated by Komnas HAM in accordance with the mandate of the Law on Human Rights Courts," said Komnas HAM Chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, August 12.
A total of 12 incidents of gross human rights violations whose investigation results have been submitted to the AGO are the mysterious shootings from 1982 to 1985, the 1989 Talangsari Lampung incident, the Trisakti, Semanggi one and two incidents that occurred between 1998 and 1999.
Then there were the May 1998 riots, the 1997 to 1998 enforced disappearances, the 1965 to 1966 incidents, the 1999 witchcraft murders, the 2002 and 2003 Wasior Wamena events.
Then the Paniai incident that occurred in 2004, the gross human rights violations in Aceh, precisely at the KAA intersection that occurred in 1998, the Geudong House incident during the Aceh Military Operations Area (DOM) era, and the Jambo Keupok incident in 2003.
The National Human Rights Commission of the Republic of Indonesia also continues to seek and propose the best format for resolving these cases thoroughly in accordance with human rights principles and norms.
"Intensive coordination continues to be carried out together with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia," said Ahmad Taufan.
At the launch of the Komnas HAM annual report, he also conveyed the cases handled through monitoring and investigation, including the murder of Pastor Yeremia Zanambani in Papua, and the deaths of six FPI soldiers in the Karawang area in early December 2020.
He acknowledged that there are still many efforts to be made in building a conducive situation for the promotion and enforcement of human rights in Indonesia. To that end, Komnas HAM builds cooperation with various parties, including ministries, institutions, academics, and civil society.
In addition, Komnas HAM also collaborates with the Office of the Presidential Staff, the Provincial Government of North Sumatra, the Danish Institute of Human Rights, UNESCO, the Human Rights Teaching Union, the International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID), the Asia Pacific Forum of Human Rights, and South Africa.
