Rupiah Slumped At The Weekend, Closed Down 0.15 Percent To Rp14,100 Per US Dollar
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on the spot market was closed lower on Friday, June 19 trading. The rupiah closed down 0.15 percent or 23 points to a level of Rp14,100 per United States dollar (US).
Monex Investindo Futures Research Head, Ariston Tjendra this morning, explained that currently there is still a tug of war between positive and negative sentiment so that the rupiah has recently moved slightly.
The reopening of the economy amid the pandemic has provided positive sentiment to the market, including the new normal economy in Indonesia. But on the other hand, the market is still wary of the increase in the spread of the COVID-19 virus and the second wave (second wave) which could reduce economic activity again.
Regional geopolitical tensions in Asia between the two Koreas as well as China and India, also held back the strengthening of the rupiah against the US dollar. This afternoon in Asia, the rupiah weakened alongside the South Korean won, which fell 0.13 percent and the Indian rupee, which weakened 0.07 percent against the US dollar.
Meanwhile, the majority of other Asian currencies strengthened against the US dollar until this afternoon. The Thai baht led the strengthening of Asian currencies against the US dollar by 0.31 percent increase, the Philippine peso was up 0.18 percent, the Chinese yuan was up 0.14 percent.
Then the Taiwan dollar rose 0.05 percent, the Malaysian ringgit rose 0.05 percent, the Japanese yen rose 0.01 percent and the Singapore dollar rose 0.007 percent, and the Hong Kong dollar rose 0.001 percent against the US dollar.
