Komnas HAM Urges Attorney General To Follow Up Files For Serious Human Rights Violations

JAKARTA - The chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Ahmad Taufan Damanik has urged Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to follow up on the investigation files of serious human rights violations that have been completed and submitted by his side.

This follow-up, he said, was in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 26/2000 on the Human Rights Court.

"Regarding the follow-up to the investigation of serious human rights violations, Komnas HAM RI continues to encourage and coordinate with the Attorney General to follow up on the 12 files that have been investigated by Komnas HAM in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 26 of 2000 concerning the Human Rights Court," said Taufan when launched the 2020 Komnas HAM annual report which was broadcast online, Thursday, August 12.

Komnas HAM, he continued, also continues to seek and propose the best format for the comprehensive resolution of the case, but remains principled and prioritizes human rights norms.

"Intensive coordination continues with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and his staff," said Taufan.

According to him, Komnas HAM still has to do a lot to build a conducive situation for the advancement of human rights enforcement in the country. However, this institution cannot work alone because it needs assistance from related parties.

"Many efforts must be made by Komnas HAM in building a conducive situation for the promotion and enforcement of human rights in Indonesia," said Taufan.

"Komnas HAM requires cooperation from various parties from ministries, academia, civil society, local governments, and of course also other related institutions," he concluded.
