MEDAN - 45 kg of methamphetamine that was about to be brought to Riau was secured by the police in Kota Pinang District, South Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra.

Labuhan Batu Police Chief, AKBP Deni Kurniawan said the three couriers arrested were R, J and SR. They were arrested on Wednesday, July 28.

At that time, the Pinang City Police Chief, AKP Bambang G Hutabarat, received information that there would be 2 cars carrying drugs across his area. Furthermore, when passing, the police immediately stopped and searched the car.

"Based on the search of the Toyota Kijang Inova BK 1454 HE, 20 packs of yellow duct tape were found under the back seat and 10 packs of absorbent tires were suspected of being methamphetamine," Deni said, Tuesday, August 10.

"(Then) from a search of the Honda Brio BK 1261 EP, it was also found 1 piece of plastic burlap containing 15 yellow duct tape in the rear trunk," he continued.

From the arrest, the total weight of the seized methamphetamine was 45 kg. Furthermore, because it was suspected that there was still methamphetamine in the car, the next morning the two cars driven by the perpetrators were dismantled.

"On the morning of Wednesday, July 28, the two cars were taken to Bengkel Agung in Jalinsum, Rantau Prapat City and carried out an inspection and disassembly in the car, but no drugs were found," said Deni.

When interrogated, the three couriers admitted that the methamphetamine belonged to him. They got it from a man from Aceh with the initials D. The perpetrators were assigned to bring the illicit goods to Riau in exchange for money.

"(They) were promised a delivery fee of Rp. 15 million per pack," said Deni.

The suspects were only given a down payment of Rp. 10 million from D. The money was transferred to one of the fugitive suspects with the initials ARD.

Deni said ARD initially joined the group but during the arrest process he fled.

Deni also explained that apart from the presentation on that day, the crystal meth was also destroyed, with a total of 43 kg being destroyed. The rest is used as evidence.

"What we destroyed were as many as 45 large packs or weighing 43,560 grams which were the result of the elimination from the confiscation of drug evidence in the disclosure of drug trafficking networks between Aceh, North Sumatra and Riau which were successfully uncovered by the Pinang City Police together with the Labuhanbatu Police Narcotics Unit," he explained.
