Ulu River Overflows Due To Heavy Rain, Hundreds Of Houses In Cikarang Are Flooded
JAKARTA - Hundreds of houses in Tanjung Sari and Karang Raharja villages, North Cikarang sub-district, Bekasi district were flooded due to the overflow of the Ulu River as high as two meters.
"It was raining last night that caused the overflow of the Ulu River since this morning," said local resident Adi Suhada (40), as reported by Antara, Tuesday, August 10.
Adi said the overflow of the river caused hundreds of houses to be flooded so that residents were forced to flee to higher ground and to local mosques.
"There has been no handling from BPBD, hopefully it will come soon to evacuate residents, this is a regular flood," he said.
He explained that his area had been flooded since the morning with a height of 30 centimeters to two meters.
"Starting this morning, it overflowed from the Ulu River, this condition occurs every time heavy rain pours in Bekasi Regency," he said. Currently, he said, hundreds of residents have fled to the local mosque and several others have fled independently to their relatives. Several other residents also set up tents.
"There has been no assistance or officers who have come here. I hope they will immediately intervene to evacuate residents," he said.
The head of the Bekasi Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, Henri Lincon, said that the flooding that hit two villages in his area was due to heavy rains that hit Bekasi Regency last night.
"Heavy rains caused Kali Ulu to overflow to residential areas. Officers are heading to the flood location," he said.*
