Garin Nugroho Believes Film Festivals Can Increase Creativity During A Pandemic
JAKARTA - As one of the pioneers of Indonesian directors, Garin Nugroho believes that film festivals can be a driving force for productivity and creativity, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The more film festivals, the better the film climate.
Garin Nugroho gave an example by holding the XI Indonesian Journalist Film Festival (FFWI). Garin is sure that filmmakers will be more motivated to work better.
Garin believes that FFWI XI, which will culminate on October 28, 2021, and has the full support of the Directorate of Film, Music and New Media (PMMB) of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, RI is one of the wealth of Indonesian films.
"The diversity of the festival is wealth. It revives productivity and creativity in the midst of today's concerns," said Garin Nugroho when contacted on Sunday, August 8.
Garin also hopes and prays for FFWI to be sustainable in the following year. "Let's celebrate productivity and creativity. Congratulations on the ongoing Indonesian Journalist Film Festival," said Garin Nugroho.
The same thing was stated by the number one person in one of the largest film companies in Indonesia. "MD Entertainment and MD Pictures, have long established good cooperation with the media and many journalists. They are partners, and friends," said Manoj Punjabi, CEO of MD Corp.
"We pray that everything goes well. See you on October 28, on Youth Pledge Day. Congratulations once again to FFWI," concluded Manoj Punjabi.
According to Wina Armada Sukardi, Chair of the Committee for FFWI XI, the FFWI event is not only to inform the public that the role of journalists, especially film journalists in participating in shaping and developing Indonesian films, is very significant.
"But it has also been going on for a long time, along with the birth of the Indonesian film industry, with all its ups and downs. Moreover, Usmar Ismail and a number of important figures who formed Indonesian cinema, were known as journalists-warriors, in the beginning," said Wina Armada Sukardi.
