Full Mattresses, Medan Hermina Hospital Sets Up Emergency Tents For COVID-19 Patients

MEDAN - Medan City Hermina Hospital has set up a waiting list tent for COVID-19 patients with moderate and severe symptoms.

Hermina Hospital Marketing Manager, Andrew Richi, said there were two tents set up. He said the 60 beds provided for COVID-19 patients had been filled.

"Currently, the number of patients who come to the hospital with indications of COVID-19 is indeed increasing. On average, there can be up to 5-6 patients on the waiting list (every day)," Andrew told reporters, Monday, August 10.

Andrew said that in the emergency tent, patients could wait for the patient's room to recover or get another referral hospital.

"We can't allow patients to be stranded, so we decided to add tents. So that patients who can't find referrals to other hospitals because the hospitals are full, can wait there for a while," he said.

According to Andrew, the construction of emergency tents has been carried out for the past month.

"Almost our daily average of 5-6 patients have to queue up at the COVID ER, because we can't get referrals to other hospitals that happen to be full," he said.

Andrew explained that in the 2 emergency tents provided, the capacity was enough for 9 people. On average, those who were there were COVID patients with moderate and severe symptoms.

"If those who are confirmed (treated) are moderate and severe," he said.

Even though he was being treated in a tent, Andrew claimed that the equipment used to treat patients was up to standard. He said, tents were also made in the area behind the hospital.

The reason is to avoid transmission to patients who are not confirmed by the corona virus at the hospital.

"The goal is to set up our tents, in terms of the flow of services from patients with indications of COVID-19 and non-COVID-19, we separate the routes, so we avoid transmission to the people who visit," he said.
