Sold 89.04 Million Units, Nintendo Switch Successfully Moves PlayStation 3 Market
JAKARTA - Nintendo has succeeded in making their latest console, the Switch, one of the newest generation consoles with the best sales.
The sale is claimed, will catch up with the number of sales of the Wii U. In fact, some say the numbers produced by the Nintendo Switch will beat several other consoles.
From a report released by Nintendo quoted from Nintendo Life, Monday, August 9, until now the company has shipped 89.04 million units of the console. They say that this figure is getting closer to the sales of the Wii U which reached 100 million units.
These sales made the Switch ultimately sell more than other popular consoles such as the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360. Where, the PlayStation 3 managed to sell 87.4 million units during its production period.
While the Xbox 360 managed to sell 86 million units. PlayStation 2 on the other hand still holds the record with 155 million units which is a pretty big number. Nintendo said sales of this hardware were boosted by the March 2020 release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the first quarter of last year, and without a similar video game app this year, sales would have declined by 21.7 percent.
The company expects the Switch console to break 100 million units by March 2022, at which point the company will also sell more systems, and do so much faster, than the Wii U's current record.
But Nintendo has no intention of launching a Switch successor at this time. They prefer to launch a Switch model that comes with an OLED screen and a new kickstand.
