Without Messi, Barcelona Beat Juventus 3-0 In The Joan Gamper Trophy

JAKARTA - Barcelona started a new era without Lionel Messi with a convincing 3-0 win over Juventus in the Joan Gamper Trophy match at Estadio Johan Cruyff Barcelona, early Monday.

The Joan Gamper Trophy is a regular friendly match held by Barcelona before the start of the new season.

Barcelona managed to take the lead quickly in the 4th minute through Memphis Depay. Starting from Braithwaite's movement in the final third, the ball was then prodded to Yusuf Demir before providing a through ball for Memphis.

The Dutch striker who ran into the penalty box easily beat Wojciech Szczesny from close range. The 1-0 score lasted until halftime.

After the break, Juventus, who tried to retaliate, conceded again in the 57th minute. A Memphis Depay corner was headed in by Martin Braithwaite, which substitute goalkeeper Mattia Perin couldn't stop. The score becomes 2-0.

Barcelona secured their win in injury time through substitute Riqui Puig. The Spanish midfielder received the ball from Nico Gonzalez's bait on the edge of the penalty box.

He then spun around to get past Giorgio Chiellini's marker before unleashing a left-footed shot, which Perrin couldn't stop. The 3-0 position lasted until the match was over.

Barcelona will now start the new La Liga season by facing Real Sociedad on Monday, August 16 in the morning. Meanwhile, Juventus still have one more test match against Atalanta on August 14 before facing Udinese in the first week of Serie A on August 22.
