Central Java - The eruption of Mount Merapi, which is located on the border of Central Java and Yogyakarta Provinces, affected 4 villages in Boyolali Regency, Central Java. There was a light ash rain in each village.
According to the Head of Jrakah Village, Selo District, Boyolali Tumar, the thin ash rain that occurred in Jrakah Village, Selo District until Sunday, August 8 at around 11.00 WIB was still ongoing. It just has no effect on residents' activities.
According to Tumar, as quoted from Antara, there are four villages on the slopes of Mount Merapi in the Selo Boyolali area that were hit by light ash rain, namely Tlogolele, Klakah, Lencoh, and Jrakah. Other areas do not know for sure whether it is affected by ash rain or not.
According to him, a light ash rain washed down vegetables, tobacco, roads, and house tiles, since Sunday around 05.30 WIB until noon, the color changed to a thin white.
However, residents in the village continue to carry out their activities as usual. Farmers continue to work on their fields and other work continues as usual.
Similarly, said the Head of Klakah Village, Marwoto, light rain also occurred in Klakah Village, which is located west of the peak of Mount Merapi. However, residents continue to carry out their activities as usual, conditions remain safe and under control.
"Residents remain calm, activities in the fields are as usual. Because there is only light ash rain, it does not affect residents' activities," said Marwoto.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Tlogolele Village, Selo Boyollai Sub-district, Neigen Achtah, explained that the ash rain that hit Tlogolele Village, which is located west of Merapi, has occurred since around 05.30 WIB. The rain of volcanic ash from Mount Merapi occurred in all areas of Tlogolele Village.
Although the village area looks white due to being covered in volcanic ash, the residents remain calm and do not affect their activities. Residents are still working as usual.
Meanwhile, the Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) previously stated that hot clouds falling from Mount Merapi on Sunday morning triggered light ash rain in several areas of the mountain's slopes.
"There was light ash rain in several locations after this hot cloud incident," said Head of BPPTKG Hanik Humaida through his official statement in Yogyakarta.
Hanik Humaida said that based on temporary data collection, light ash rain was observed, among others, in the Tlogolele and Klakah Ngisor areas in Boyolali Regency, Central Java and Kapuhan, Paten, Ngowok, and Babadan in Magelang Regency, Central Java.
