Evidence Reveals 1.74 Liters Of Fuel In Vettel Car Tank, Aston Martin Appeals

JAKARTA - Aston Martin on Thursday decided it would appeal against Sebastian Vettel's disqualification decision from the Hungarian Grand Prix and will present "significant new evidence" to the FIA.

Four-time world champion Vettel finished runners-up at the Hungaroring on Sunday, behind Alpine's Esteban Ocon, who took his maiden Formula 1 win.

However, the German was disqualified after the FIA was unable to take 1.0 liter of the required post-race fuel sample from his race car.

Aston Martin, in an official statement as quoted by Reuters from Reuters, said the data it had indicated there was still 1.74 liters in the Vettel car's tank.

The team also said it had requested a right of review in addition to filing an appeal, as they had found new evidence relevant to the sanction that was not available when the FIA stewards made the decision.

Vettel's car has been sealed and confiscated by the FIA and taken to France after the Hungarian Grand Prix during F1's summer break before competition resumes at the end of this month.

A date for the appeal hearing has yet to be set, while stewards are likely to see if the new evidence presented can form the basis for a review.

The next F1 race will be held in Belgium on August 29.

The disqualification affected both the drivers' and constructors' standings as seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton of the Mercedes team moved up as race runner-up and took over from top of the standings from Max Verstappen who is now eight points behind.

The points increase also made enough difference in the third-place constructors battle between Ferrari and McLaren, as did Williams, who had both drivers; Nicholas Latifi and George Russell, finished in the points zone in P8 and P9 to move the team up one place in the constructors' standings.
