Google Photos Releases 'Memories' Widget For Multiple Users, Showcase Your Photo Collection On Front Page
YOGYAKARTA - Last June, XDA-Developers reported that the Google Photos app for Android was preparing to add a new widget feature to the Homepage view. Called 'Memories' or 'Memories', this feature was previously available in the iOS version since last year.
Even though the code for the feature is already present in the app, the company still hasn't rolled it out for a wider audience. However, it seems, Google has started releasing the feature for a select number of users or products only.
As reported by a Telegram channel called Google Pixel, a widget called 'Your Memories' has already been released to several products. Especially for phones that are already running the Google Photos application version v5.52.0.0387241369.
To make it more familiar, 'Your Memories' is a widget on the home page of the phone containing photo albums that are displayed automatically. The photo appears in a smaller size and will change automatically –adjusting the number of photos stored in the album and used as a widget.
Through this new widget feature, Android users can showcase a collection of photos taken by themselves on the Home Page. As shown in the screenshot below, the 'Your Memories' widget can be accessed via the 'Widget Collection' menu.
The standard size of the widget is 2x2 – which is relatively small. But, users are given the freedom to adjust the size of the widget. It's easy to set the size. Just press and swipe the pointer located on the widget frame.
Drag the pointer to increase the size, and pinch to reduce. Yes, the movement is similar to when you want to enlarge or reduce the size of the image that appears on the phone screen.
Similar to the 'Memories' carousel available in the Google Photos app, this widget will only display photo albums in the form of a slideshow. For the time being, the Google Photos widget can only display 'Memories' from 'This Week' and 'One year ago'.
However, it is possible that more types of photos will be supported. Especially when Google Photos supports other types of 'Memories' like 'Best of the Month', 'Travel Highlights', 'Celebrations' and many more.
It should be noted, the 'Memories' widget is not yet widely rolled out. In fact, the author's cell phone does not exist yet. So, if you want to give it a try, please wait and be patient.
