Corruption Case, Former North Sumatra BNN Expenditure Treasurer Sued 4 Years In Prison
MEDAN - Defendant SYF (43), a former Expenditure Treasurer of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of North Sumatra Province, was sentenced to four years in prison in a corruption case amounting to Rp756.5 million.
The Public Prosecution Team (JPU) from the Medan Kejari, in a virtual trial at the Medan Corruption Court, Thursday, August 5, stated that the defendant was also required to pay a fine of Rp. 200 million or a subsidiary of six months in prison.
Then the defendant must also pay compensation (UP) for state financial losses amounting to Rp756,530,060. After one month the case remains unpaid, the defendant's property is confiscated and auctioned.
"If the defendant's assets are not sufficient to cover the UP of the state's financial losses, it will be replaced with a sentence of two years in prison," said the public prosecutor's team, quoted by Antara.
The prosecutor said that the defendant violated Article 8 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law Number 20 of 2021 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes.
The things that incriminate the defendant are not in line with the government's program to eradicate corruption.
While the things that relieve the defendant, regret his actions, have never been punished, and still have family responsibilities.
The trial of the corruption case led by the Panel of Judges chaired by Syafril Batubara continued on Thursday, August 12, to hear the defense memorandum (pleidoi) of the accused against the demands of the Public Prosecutor's Team from the Medan Kejari.
