KPK Refuses To Follow Up On Ombudsman's Recommendation, Novel Baswedan: Extraordinary, It's Embarrassing

JAKARTA - Novel Baswedan criticized the KPK's refusal to follow up on the Ombudsman's recommendations. For Novel, the statement by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron, was embarrassing.

“The findings from the Ombudsman are serious and illustrate that the TWK process is a serious scandal in efforts to eradicate corruption. The KPK leadership should be ashamed when this fact is found, at least the response is apologizing,” said Novel Baswedan, Thursday, August 5.

According to Novel, the KPK's response to rejecting the Ombudsman's corrective action was embarrassing.

“This is extraordinary, this is embarrassing, and illustrates what law enforcement officials should not do. Because the important rule that must be adhered to by law enforcement officials is obeying the law and being honest. Unfortunately, the KPK leadership cannot be an example of that," said Novel Baswedan.

As previously reported, the KPK objected to following up on the findings and corrective actions announced by the Indonesian Ombudsman regarding the alleged maladministration of the National Insight Test (TWK) assessment.

This objection was conveyed by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron at a press conference held at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.

"The complainant expressed his objection to following up on corrective actions suggested by the Indonesian Ombudsman to the KPK," said Ghufron on the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Thursday, August 5.

The KPK considers the Indonesian Ombudsman to be unfair in their findings and is considered to have disrespected his authority as the executor of the TWK. In addition, Ghufron said the Ombudsman had given an offensive statement.

According to him, the implementation of TWK has been carried out in accordance with applicable regulations. Ghufron also emphasized that there was no maladministration whatsoever in the implementation of the test.

The KPK also accused the Indonesian Ombudsman of feeling more powerful than the laws and regulations in force in Indonesia. This is evidenced by the attitude of the Ombudsman who did not delay the examination of alleged violations in the TWK process.

In fact, at the same time the judicial review related to TWK is being carried out at the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court. "The Ombudsman must refuse even though the inspection must be stopped (during the material test, ed)," said Ghufron.
