Starting From Goat Herding In Lampung, Yuli Irawan's Eco Story Was Taken As A Short Film

JAKARTA - The story and journey of Eko Yuli Irawan in pursuing a career as a weightlifter was made into a short film entitled 'Eko Yuli Irawan The Movie.'

On his personal Instagram, Eko Yuli uploaded a poster along with a snippet of the short film. He hopes that his story and struggle can be an inspiration to everyone.

"A short film of my journey in weightlifting. Hopefully it can inspire," wrote Eko in his Instagram upload, @ekopower61, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, August 4.

The film, directed by sports apparel manufacturer SFIDN FITS, opens with the story of little Eko, who has to herd goats in Lampung every day, when he suddenly finds a weightlifting gym and gets an offer to train by the club coach.

Through the short film with a duration of 10.25 minutes, it is also told that Eko, the son of a pedicab driver and a vegetable trader mother, is determined to raise the status of his parents by becoming a weightlifter who can represent the Red and White in various international championships, including the Olympics.

Years passed, Eko continued to keep his dream until he decided to leave his hometown to be able to appear in the Olympics.

Until finally Eko Yuli Irawan also made his Olympic debut in Beijing 2008. He presented a bronze medal.

The 33-year-old athlete again contributed bronze at London 2012, and silver at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

For this achievement, Eko made history as the first Indonesian athlete to consistently donate medals in four consecutive Olympics.
