Knock! Jakarta High Court Upholds Rizieq Shihab's Sentence 8 Months In Prison And A Fine Of Rp. 20 Million

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta High Court (PT) upheld the sentence of 8 months imprisonment and a fine of Rp. 20 million against the defendant Rizieq Shihab. The verdict is related to two crowd cases, namely Petamburan and Megamendung.

"To strengthen the decision of the East Jakarta District Court Number 221/Pid.Sus/2021/PN.Jkt.Tim and 226/Pid.Sus/2021/PN.Jkt.Tim dated 27 May 2021 for which an appeal was requested," quoted from a copy of the PT decision. Jakarta, Wednesday, August 4th.

In this trial stage of appeal, the Chief Justice Sugeng Hiyanto assessed that the defendant had been proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing a criminal act of not complying with the Implementation of Health Quarantine.

Rizieq was declared to have violated Article 93 of Law Number 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code.

Meanwhile, for the case of the crowd in Megamendung, Rizieq was sentenced to a fine of Rp. 20 million. The verdict is lower than the prosecutor's demand with a prison sentence of 10 months.
