BWF Ensures Greysia/Apriyani Qualify For WTF 2021 Bali, Silver And Bronze Winners Continue To Qualify

JAKARTA - The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has confirmed that Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu will immediately qualify for the World Tour Finals tournament which will take place next December in Bali. The reason, this women's doubles pair successfully won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

This confirmation was conveyed by BWF Council Member Bambang Roedyanto through his Twitter account on Wednesday.

The Central Board of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PP PBSI) confirmed the information released by the man who is also the head of the Foreign Relations Division.

"We are still focused on the decision to apply to the Olympic gold medalists," said Head of Public Relations and Media Broto Happy when contacted by Antara, Wednesday.

According to PBSI, this facility is only given to badminton players who won gold medals from Tokyo 2020. While silver and bronze medalists still have to collect points from qualifying tournaments in order to qualify.

With this information, the Indonesian women's doubles Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu received a "bonus" by immediately securing their position in the closing tournament of the season.

Meanwhile, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, the men's singles bronze medalist, still has to collect qualifying points to qualify for the 2021 BWF WTF.

The BWF World Tour Finals 2021 is scheduled to be one of the tournaments held in Bali on December 1-5 as part of the Asia Leg tournament.

Before BWF WTF, Indonesia Masters (Super 750) will be held on November 16-21, Indonesia Open (Super 1000) November 23-28.
