Megawati Emphasizes Leaders Must Be On The Field During Disasters, Not Those Who Are Seen On TV
JAKARTA - PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri asked all central and regional leaders from her party to be vigilant and to mitigate the tsunami and earthquake natural disasters.
Megawati also said that there was a need for leaders who went directly to the field, not those who just appeared looking for an image when a disaster occurred.
"Please, those of you who are leaders, (according to, ed) I really need in this disaster issue a field leader," Megawati said in her speech at the launch of the Geo-Hydrometeorological Multi-Danger Early Warning System which was held online by the PDIP DPP, Wednesday, August 4. .
"So we need people like this, not people who are mejeng, who only want to see pictures on TV and so on," he added.
He said that mitigating disasters requires synergy from related parties in the government, including ministries. All parties, said Megawati, need to work together to save human lives.
"We have to work together, we can't sort things out. Again, we can't because it's the human soul that is being helped," he said.
The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia reminded that all activities in the field related to disasters can not only be based on theory but also good practice. This is because field practice and theory are often different.
"The field is practical, there is no theory and theory can't just be thought about with the same field. I experienced theory and field practice didn't work at all," he said.
Therefore Megawati asked for training related to disaster management. According to him, this must be done and the budget can be discussed in the DPR RI.
"I really want (there, ed) training. I don't know how much the budget will be, but it can be discussed with the DPR that the training should be (done, ed) actually," he concluded.
