African Network Smuggles 16 Kg Of Shabu Into Elephant To Rhinoceros Statues

JAKARTA - The police thwarted an attempt to smuggle methamphetamine by an international network from Africa. The perpetrator disguised the crystal methamphetamine in an animal statue.

"This is a total of 16 kilograms (sabu). The mode is the same, they are sent via packages. The only difference is that these packages are smuggled in several statues," said Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Yusri Yunus, to reporters, Wednesday, August 4.

There are four statues in the form of animals. For example, elephants, buffalo, hippos, and rhinos. Meanwhile, the other is in the form of a head.

"Sent from Africa, the address is from Mozambique in South Africa. This is in the form of existing statues," said Yusri.

The statues were sent by air to Indonesia via Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The police, who previously received information about the existence of the shipment, coordinated with the Customs and Excise Office.

"This is what we then coordinate with Customs and Excise to check the shipment. It is true that there is a total of 16 kilograms (shabu) and we are also doing the same thing," said Yusri.

From that finding, it was re-developed towards the recipient of the package. Until finally arrested two suspects DO and FS in the Jatiwarna area, Bekasi.

Then, from the results of the examination, the two men said they were ordered by someone with the initials CN. Thus, the man was also included in the list of wanted drugs.

The suspects DO and FS were charged with Article 114 Paragraph (2) Sub-Article 112 Paragraph (2) Junto Article 132 Paragraph (1) RI Law Number 35 of 2009, concerning Narcotics.
