Task Force: There Is No Evidence Of Animals Positive For COVID-19 Transmitting To Humans
JAKARTA - Head of the Expert Team for the Task Force for Handling COVID-19 Prof Wiku Adisasmito said, so far there is no evidence that animals infected with COVID-19 can transmit the virus to humans.
"Globally, there are currently 500 cases in 10 species in 30 countries," said Wiku Adisasmito when delivering a report on the progress of handling COVID-19 which was monitored virtually from BNPB's YouTube, reported by Antara, Tuesday, August 3.
Wiku said that the report on the case of animals infected with SARA-Cov-2 causing COVID-19 was submitted by the Office of International Epizootics or the World Animal Health Organization.
"Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, several countries have reported SARS-CoV-2 infections in animals, including wild animals," he said.
Wiku also advises pet owners to avoid contact with pets when they are infected with COVID-19.
"Reduce the contact of animals with people who have not been vaccinated and check pets to the veterinarian if they show symptoms," he said.
