Lewis Hamilton Calls For Spain To Stop Bullfighting Tradition
JAKARTA - With the Formula 1 racing event still vacant due to the COVID-19 crash, there is more attention to social messages sent by riders. One of them, Lewis Hamilton, who called on Spain to stop the tradition of bullfighting.
Hamilton had previously criticized his fellow riders for showing no public reaction to George Floyd's murder. He also called for the removal of statues of historical figures in Britain who had taken part in slavery during their lifetime.
Now, Hamilton is again calling for another social message. Through an Instagram post, he uploaded a photo of a dead bull.
"Spain, this is absolutely disgusting," Hamilton wrote.
"Children in Spain learn to torture and kill bull bulls at the age of 14.
"We ask the Ministry of Education to immediately close the bullfighting schools, you can help by sharing this request."
The F1 World Champion called attention to the cause of the bull's death after a petition was launched by the animal rights organization PETA. It contains sentiments against bullfighting and animal abuse.
