Video Call With Greysia/Apriyani, Jokowi: I'm Very Proud, Especially When Indonesia Raya Is Reverberating

JAKARTA - The pair Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics after eliminating the Chinese women's doubles Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan on Monday, August 2.

In the women's doubles badminton final which lasted for 55 minutes at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo, Japan, Greysia/Apriyani won in two games with a score of 21-19, 21-15.

After the match, Greysia/Apriyani made a video call with President Joko Widodo via cellphone belonging to the chairman of the Indonesian NOC, Raja Sapta Oktohari.

In the conversation, Jokowi said he was proud of the achievements of Greysia/Apriyani at the Tokyo Olympics.

"Honestly, I am very proud, especially when the Indonesia Raya (song) is playing," said Jokowi who was greeted with thanks by Greysia / Apriyani.

Jokowi then revealed that he was nervous during the first game.

"Almost caught up, huh? But the second set was much calmer," said the former governor of DKI Jakarta.

After greeting coach Eng Hian and congratulating him, Jokowi conveyed greetings from all Indonesian people who were very proud and happy with the gold medal that Greysia/Apriyani won.

"Greys and Apri, congratulations again," said Jokowi.

"Thank you, sir. 76th Anniversary of Indonesia! Independence!!!" shouted Okto as well as Greysia/apriyani and the coach when closing their conversation with Jokowi.
