Pontianak Mayor: COVID-19 Cases Tend To Drop

JAKARTA - The Mayor of Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Edi Rusdi Kamtono said the positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the city currently tend to decrease.

"This is based on data as of July 31, 2021, as many as 148 positive confirmed cases of COVID-19, from previously reaching 200 people per day. Likewise, the hospital occupancy rate where the Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) has also decreased," said Edi Rusdi Kamtono in Pontianak, reported by Antara, Monday, August 2.

He explained that the average for the isolation room was at 60 percent, then for the ICU room it was still around 60 to 80 percent due to the limitations of the ICU room.

The figure is considered to be still not significant because ideally it is below 40 percent. He hopes that the BOR in existing hospitals will continue to decline and the number of patients being treated will decrease.

According to him, hospitals in Pontianak City not only treat patients from Pontianak, but also from outside Pontianak.

Based on data, an average of about 60 percent of Pontianak City residents are treated, the remaining 30 percent are residents from outside the City of Pontianak.

"The city of Pontianak has quite complete hospital facilities such as the West Kalimantan Provincial Government Hospital, Pontianak City Government Hospital, TNI/Polri Hospital and the private sector," he said. Then, Edi added that the positivity rate in Pontianak City has also decreased.

Edi explained that based on data as of July 31, 2021, the Pontianak City positivity rate was at 19 percent. This figure is expected to continue to decline in line with efforts to handle the COVID-19 pandemic in Pontianak City.

"We also continue to carry out PCR testing for the people of Pontianak City. Data as of July 2021, the average number of PCR testing is between 500 to 1,000 per day," he said.
