Losing Job, Travel Driver In Bali Pretends To Buy Capcay Then Steal Cell Phones

BADUNG - A travel driver with the initials KS (47) was arrested by the Abiansemal Police, Badung, Bali, for a case of cellphone theft.

The perpetrator admitted that he was desperate to steal because he lost his job and was unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abiansemal Police Chief Kompol Ruli Agus Susanto said the theft occurred at Warung Jopin, Banjar Telanga, Darmasaba Village, Abiansemal District, Badung Regency, Bali, on Friday, July 9. The perpetrators stole the cellphone belonging to Luh Eka Sartika (27).

"The modus operandi is that the perpetrators pretended to order capcay. In fact, the goal was to steal valuables at the crime scene," said Commissioner Susanto, Friday, July 30.

The perpetrator acted when the victim cooked the capcay ordered by the perpetrator. The perpetrator took the cellphone and left the location with the excuse of wanting to buy credit.

"But the perpetrator did not return and at that time the victim became suspicious. He checked his cellphone and it was missing. The victim immediately reported to the Abiansemal Police," he added.

According to the victim's report, the perpetrator was arrested on Thursday, July 29. The perpetrator was arrested at a fast food restaurant on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Denpasar.

"The perpetrator admitted that he took the cellphone and then sold it and the money was used to meet daily needs. In addition, the perpetrator admitted that he did not work or was unemployed," said Commissioner Susanto.
