Kissing Weird Signs Court 'Hobby' Gives Discount On Corrupt Punishment, MAKI Urges KY To Take Action
JAKARTA - The Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman urged the Judicial Commission (KY) to evaluate the decision to reduce the sentence against Djoko Tjandra in the case of giving bribes to law enforcement officials and conspiracy.
"Indeed, the Judicial Commission has to do a lot of evaluation, even though it cannot intervene in decisions, but they can evaluate from decisions that can be 'discounted'," Boyamin said in Jakarta as quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 29.
Boyamin stated that this was in response to the decision of the DKI Jakarta High Court which reduced Djoko Tjandra's sentence from 4.5 years to 3.5 years in prison.
According to him, the evaluation of KY is important so that the reasons for the reduction in punishment can be formulated which may turn out to be illogical.
MAKI smells the phenomenon of reducing sentences for corruptors, which does not only occur at the High Court level in the Djoko Tjandra case. However, it also happened at the level of the Supreme Court (MA) when some corruptors got reduced sentences.
Boyamin added that the formulation could also be used as an evaluation for the Supreme Court in providing guidance to Supreme Court Justices and judges in the appeal courts and district courts.
Previously, KY Spokesperson Miko Ginting said the agency would review the decision of the DKI Jakarta High Court which reduced Djoko Tjandra's sentence on Wednesday, July 28 yesterday.
Miko said KY pays attention to the decision and several other decisions, especially from the consideration of the importance of sensitivity to justice for the community.
In addition, this is closely related to public trust in the honor of judges and the integrity of courts in the country, said Miko.
