United Airlines Has Online Food Order Service To Reduce Physical Contact

JAKARTA - Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, everyone must reduce physical contact. Likewise, United Airlines has just announced a new way for passengers to order food in the cabin.

Launching The Verge, Thursday 29 July, passengers can now order food, drinks and snacks online from five days before their scheduled flight. Self-reservations can be made via the United Airlines website or via the airline's mobile app.

This food pre-order service allows flight attendants to move more quickly in the cabin and provide a more personalized service to passengers. Preorders will be handled through a contactless payment system, which the airline also claims is safer for passengers and flight attendants.

Customers who choose not to order food and beverages can still do so during the flight. But United Airlines is asking customers to load their credit card in the app's digital wallet for contactless payments while on board.

The company said this service can not only be enjoyed by business passengers, but also economy passengers can order food online.

Previously, only business passengers on certain eligible flights could order food and beverages directly in the cabin. Now, United is expanding options for all ticket holders and passengers on all flights over 1,500 miles.

United Airlines has added amenities and removed additional fees as a strategy to help attract customers back onto its planes. Not only that, the company has also recently added a Bluetooth option for in-flight entertainment.

With customer demand still below pre-pandemic levels, the airline industry as a whole is trying to make flights look safe, and most importantly cheap.
