Back To Print History, PlayStation 5 Sold Out 10 Million Units Globally
JAKARTA - Recently, the PlayStation 5 (PS5) made history with the fastest sales compared to its predecessor. Sony's latest game console which was launched last November has now made a scene all over the world.
Compiled from ScreenRant, Thursday 29 July, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the PlayStation 5 had sold more than 10 million units globally during the nine months from launch, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation console in history.
Sony thanks its customers for their support in helping the PS5 reach this milestone. They mention the hard work of the product development team in creating systems and expressing excitement in future games like Horizon Forbidden West and Santa Monica Studios' God Of War sequel.
No wonder this achievement, because since the beginning of the launch the sales figures for the PS5 immediately shot up sharply. In fact, it sold more than 4.5 million units even before the end of 2020. This record continued into the new year, surpassing the Xbox Series X as time went on.
Even crowned as the console with the fastest selling in the history of the United States (US) in April. Granted, the Nintendo Switch sold out more than the PS5 earlier in February and March, but it's becoming increasingly clear that Sony is off to a great start in its latest iteration of the so-called Console Wars and is making history among its own.
Actually, the PS5 hasn't always been smooth to get to this point. The company was faced with a severe shortage of consoles at launch due to a number of different factors, including the ongoing shortage of vital processor chips due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Not only that, many online scalpers were targeting the PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch. They use bots to pick up units and resell them on eBay for much higher prices. Sony has been trying to meet this challenge, by increasing production of the PS5 throughout the summer to meet high market demand.
Sony is very pleased with this achievement. PS5 is very popular because the console is showing great performance among gamers not even a year since its launch. What's more, it's backed by cutting-edge gameplay features and a strong lineup of exclusive game titles, with more planned for the future.
