The Daddies Kick The Host, Qualify For The Tokyo Olympics Semifinals
JAKARTA - Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan qualified for the semifinals after ejecting the host pair Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda, Thursday, July 29.
The victory through the 21-14, 16-21, 21-9 rubber game paid for the disappointment after previously other Indonesian representatives, namely Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, were stopped in the quarter-finals after being defeated by Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik from Malaysia.
Hendra/Ahsan, ranked second in the world, displayed a game that became their hallmark of making tight defenses and making accurate returns.
The pair nicknamed The Daddies are attached to a patient game and do not indulge in attacks like their younger counterparts.
The patience of The Daddies game paid off in the decisive game. Kamura/Sonoda, who tried an aggressive strategy, had difficulty breaking through Hendra/Ahsan's defense.
As a result of carrying out too many attacks, the fifth-ranked men's doubles also experienced a decline in performance which was then executed smoothly by Hendra / Ahsan.
As a result, The Daddies created a scoring gap of up to 11-1, with eight points recorded by Ahsan in a row.
In the first game, Ahsan also managed to score six points in a row, making him the most points in this 46-minute match.
The Daddies are still waiting for potential opponents in the last four, between Japanese men's doubles ranked fourth Hiroyuki Endo/Yuta Watanabe and Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin from Taiwan.
