Failed To Overcome Malaysia's Double Pressure, Minions Knocked Out In Tokyo Olympics Quarterfinals
JAKARTA - The world number one men's doubles Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon failed to overcome the tough game presented by Malaysian representatives Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik. They were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Thursday.
The defeat suffered by the Minions was Aaron/Soh's first, having previously recorded a 7-0 winning streak.
In this Olympic arena, Kevin/Marcus' game has been difficult to develop since they played in the preliminary round of Group A against the Taiwan men's doubles which ended in a rubber game defeat.
Even in today's match, Kevin/Marcus did not move in the face of the ninth-ranked men's doubles attack which displayed aggressiveness.
Meanwhile Kevin/Marcus couldn't counterattack and was carried away by Aaron/Soh's game. Kevin/Marcus had equalized 16-16 in the second game but again received a tight attack from their opponents.
Minions became the third Indonesian representative in badminton to lift luggage, following Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti (mixed doubles) and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung (women's singles).
