Smothered By Monchengladbach In Pre-season, Bayern Munich Coach Sees The Positive And Is Ready To Make Improvements

JAKARTA - Bayern Munich lost 0-2 to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the pre-season match which took place on Wednesday, 28 July evening. However, coach Julian Nagelsmann saw some good things – and areas for improvement – in his players.

The coach who replaced Hansi Flick revealed after the game, his team defended much better in the first half than what they did in the previous few test matches.

"We wanted to press early today and win the ball a lot. Gladbach didn't have many dangerous situations in the first half. But we weren't quite ahead in front of goal," said Nagelsmann, quoted from FCBayern.com, Thursday.

He conceded his team were not active in the offensive third, but still had two or three good chances. Early in the second half, Bayern had two really good substitution moments. However, they couldn't control the ball and Gladbach scored a goal before the substitution was made.

Nagelsmann then said, the speed of the game that sometimes panicked was carried out by both teams. In the end, they made so many erratic movements.

"The players practiced erratic ball rotation, there was no longer any structure in either team," said Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann realized, Bayern must win when competitive matches begin. However, pre-season matches cannot be used as a benchmark considering the new international players will return from the summer break and the new players also still have to adapt.

"We won't be able to do a lot of new things at the start. That's where we have to and want to get back to what we're used to, and then successively develop through the day-to-day league games," concluded the coach.
