Defendant In Case Of 48 Kilograms Of Methamphetamine In Aceh Demands The Death Penalty

BANDA ACEH - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the East Aceh District Prosecutor's Office, Aceh, has charged the defendant with possessing 48 kilograms of methamphetamine with the death penalty.

Prosecutors Harry Arfhan and M Iqbal Zakwan read out the demands at the Idi District Court, East Aceh Regency, Wednesday, July 28.

The session took place virtually (teleconference). The trial with a panel of judges chaired by Apriyanti was accompanied by Khalid and Reza Bastira Siregar, each as member judges.

The defendant Rusu alias Maeli bin Yakob (41), a resident of Julok, East Aceh Regency, attended the trial of the Class II B Idi Penitentiary, East Aceh, where he has been detained.

Public Prosecutor Harry Arfhan stated that the defendant was proven legally and convincingly guilty of violating Article 114 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 Year 2009 concerning Narcotics.

Public Prosecutor Harry Arfhan also stated that the defendant was proven guilty legally and convincingly of violating Article 1 Paragraph (1) of the Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 regarding the possession of firearms without a permit.

"To demand the defendant Rusu alias Maeli bin Yakob with the death penalty," said the Public Prosecutor, quoted by Antara.

According to the public prosecutor, the defendant Rusu alias Maeli bin Yakob was charged with multiple layers of articles because apart from possessing and storing crystal methamphetamine, he also possessed firearms without a permit.

In addition to demanding the death penalty, the Public Prosecutor demanded evidence in the form of a car, two mobile phones, a short-barreled hand-held firearm along with five rounds of ammunition, and three jugs of shabu-shabu weighing 48 kilograms were confiscated for the state.

After listening to the prosecutor's demands, the defendant through his legal advisor stated that he would file a memorandum of defense. The panel of judges continued the trial this week with the agenda of hearing the defendant's defense memorandum.
