Prosecutor: Juliari's Corruption Is Very Disgraceful, Irony In The Communities Affected By COVID-19

JAKARTA - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that the corruption in the provision of social assistance (bansos) by Juliari Peter Batubara was despicable. Because as a state official, Juliari should pay more attention to the conditions of the people affected by COVID-19.

"The defendant's act of taking advantage of the provision of the COVID-19 basic food assistance at the Ministry of Social Affairs he leads is a very disgraceful act and an irony in the midst of the suffering of small communities who have been economically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," said the prosecutor reading the charges at the Corruption Court. , Jakarta, Wednesday, July 28.

Juliari, who at that time served as Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) should have supervised the distribution of social assistance. Juliari should have made sure that the community could get help to get through the pandemic.

"Moreover, the defendant as the minister of social affairs should supervise the supervision of the basic food assistance which is intended for small communities so that it can be implemented as well as possible," said the prosecutor

But what Juliari did was just for profit. Even though during the pandemic, the Indonesian economy, especially the people, fell sharply.

"The criminal act of corruption committed by the defendant is certainly very concerning for all of us because in the difficult and difficult economic conditions of the community as a result of the widespread spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, on the other hand there are parties who take advantage of the implementation of the basic food assistance from the government to the community. " said the prosecutor.

Juliari Peter Batubara was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the alleged bribery case for the procurement of social assistance (bansos) COVID-19. Juliari was also charged with a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary to 2 years in prison.

"The sentence is in the form of imprisonment for 11 years reduced while the defendant is in detention and a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary of six months in prison," said the public prosecutor (JPU) during the trial, Wednesday, July 28.

With these demands and considerations, the prosecutor believes that Juliari Peter Batubara has been legally and convincingly proven to have committed a criminal act of corruption. Juliari's corruption is in accordance with the first indictment.

"Declare that the defendant is proven legally and convincingly according to law guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption as regulated and punishable by a crime in Article 12 letter b Jo Article 18 or Article 11 Jo Article 18 of the Law on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes Jo Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Code Jo Article 64 paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Code," said the prosecutor.
